Metallic Spheres by The Orb Featuring David Gilmour

An interesting collaboration that drops today is Metallic Spheres. Conceived by ambient club band, The Orb and featuring David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, the album should appeal to fans of progressive rock and aging hippies. In true progressive rock style the album is divided into two halves, Metallic Side and Spheres Side.

The Orb, though coming from a very electronic, and electronic-inspired background, has long been compared to the guitar and organ led Pink Floyd, mostly due to the bands' comparable light shows, tendency to long songs and psychedelic inspired tradition.

Gilmour recently reconciled with former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters. The two gave a performance for the charity Hoping Foundation on July 11, 2010. Gilmour and Waters seemed to be the best of friends, laughing and joking together, Waters has confirmed via his Facebook page that Gilmour will play Comfortably Numb with him for one of his shows on his upcoming The Wall Live tour.

The entire CD is up on Spinner, available to stream this week for free at http://www.spinner.com/new-releases#/21 or you can get a glimpse of it below.
