The 27's

There exists in the history of rock and roll a dark statistical anomaly that is simply hard to ignore. It’s a club whose members have paid the ultimate price, either at their own hand or at the hand of others. Members of this club have influenced generations, but this is no club that you want to join.

It has a few names, The 27’s, Club 27 or Forever 27. Call it what you will, it is difficult to ignore. The early demise of so many musicians at this untimely age became most noticable in the 1960's with the quartet of Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, but the story goes far deeper than those artists. It reaches back in time to the Delta blues and the itinerant musician, Robert Johnson. It reaches into the contemporary to the suicide of Kurt Cobain and beyond.

Membership in this club is legendary, it’s members mythical.

Over the next few weeks, leading up to Halloween, I will be posting the stories of some these artists and their unique biographies.
